Me, 2004
Heikki Kallasjoki
, officially. fizzie
, un.
I am currently some sort of a scientist during the day, and some sort of a hacker (in the older, non-cybercrime
sense) during the night.
Regarding the first half, I do noise-robust speech recognition related activities at the Helsinki University of Technology Aalto University School of Science, Department of Information and Computer Science School of Electrical Engineering, Department of Signal Processing and Acoustics.
One of these days I should be getting a doctoral degree from there.
As for the unofficial activities, I dabble in esoteric programming languages, among other things. The other pages here at zem.fi hold a not-so-representative sample of the kind of things I do.
If you do IRC in the IRCnet or the freenode networks, fizzie is the name.
For the latter, feel free to visit e.g. the #esoteric channel.
As for email, append @zem.fi to the same name.
There is an official personnel page. There is also an autogenerated publication list that should be more or less up to date. Some of them have been listed below.
Interspeech 2011: Heikki Kallasjoki, Ulpu Remes, Jort F. Gemmeke, Tuomas Virtanen, and Kalle Palomäki. Uncertainty measures for improving exemplar-based source separation. In Proceedings of INTERSPEECH 2011, pages 469–472, Florence, Italy, August 28-31 2011. ISCA.
CHiME 2011: Heikki Kallasjoki, Sami Keronen, Guy J. Brown, Jort F. Gemmeke, Ulpu Remes, and Kalle Palomäki. Mask estimation and sparse imputation for missing data speech recognition in multisource reverberant environments. In International Workshop on Machine Listening in Multisource Environments, Florence, Italy, September 1 2011.
Master's thesis, September 2009: Methods for spectral envelope estimation in noise robust speech recognition. (Pattern Recognition Society of Finland gave it the "best pattern recognition master's thesis in Finland 2009" award.)
As a lark, here is a list of programming languages I recall at least doing something with, roughly in inverse order of familiarity.
Anything up to Prolog I could consider myself to know
, up to some degree.
Processor architectures in the following denote the assembly of the corresponding processor.
C. Perl. Python. Java. Scheme. MATLAB. Bash. JavaScript. x86(-64). Scala. Z80. QBasic. C++. Haskell. C#. PHP. SQL. MIPS. FORTH. Prolog. 6502. Tcl. ARM. Visual Basic (long ago). Logo. Common Lisp. R. Erlang. FORTRAN.
Very briefly, it's possibly not terribly interesting.
Born in Helsinki, Finland, in 1983.
After compulsory education, went to Helsinki University of Technology to get a master's degree in computer science; major Computer and Information Science
, minors Theoretical Computer Science
, Telecommunications Software
.
While there, also got married (end of 2006).
Managed to graduate in autumn 2009, just before it became the Aalto University.
Didn't help much, still there as a graduate student.
